Feel Better Soon

by Kylie

Hi Everyone,

Couldn’t help myself, I just had to play with the Promenade set from Paper Smooches again. It is just so sweet.

This card didn’t quite work like I was hoping. Whilst it has plenty of texture, it just comes across as flat to me. I haven’t quite worked out what I don’t like about it. lol I’ll sleep on it and maybe tomorrow I will have worked out what I should have done, or maybe I will just develop a new appreciation for it. It’s funny how that happens sometimes. Update: I know what it is – too similar to other designs I’ve done in the past (and which, just quietly, worked better) AND that pink is too pale. 🙂 Phew! Back to the drawing board on this one.

So here’s the card for today:

Feel Better Soon Materials Used: Stamps - Home Sweet Home (Lawn Fawn); Chit Chat, Debonair, Party Posse, Promenade, Summer Groves (Paper Smooches); Designer Papers - 6-1/2" Paper Pads - Summer Breeze, Tea Party (KaiserCraft); Distress Markers, Lawn Trimmings (Lawn Fawn) and Glossy Accents (Ranger).

Oh my, I’m slow in responding (internet tempermentalness going on!!)! Your card here is quite pretty as it is: serene, evening/dusk, gentle. I agree with Bev’s stickles suggestion, and mine would be…hmmm…maybe changing the sentiment to a ‘missing you’ one, as you’ve left the bench empty. Your ideas to create a tag with the center panel: YES! That would be darling, as would adding a window panel! I’m looking forward to seeing your ‘renovations’ and ‘adaptations’! Actually, this is a good exercise; I have a number of cards that would be so much better with ‘do-overs’ and understanding how you approach such a task is super cool! My usual response when something doesn’t work: toss into the ‘meh’ pile, then take apart what I can (salvage where possible!) and reassemble into something entirely new. Hmmm…possibilities. Nothing wrong with ‘case-ing’ our own creations! Off to pack as we’re heading to see my family today. Yahoooo!!!! Hugs to you, Kylie – have a fantastic day!

Hi Carol, I’m a bit slow too. It happens. 🙂 Thank you so much for all your great suggestions. I am going to try again right now, actually…well, after I have visited your blog to see what you have been up to. 🙂 Sometimes I just throw out my duds, but at the moment I wouldn’t have anything at all to show. lol I figure this way everyone can see that sometimes things just don’t work but you just keep trying AND often times a simple suggestion from someone else (ie. you and Bev) can throw a new perspective. Hope you have had a fantastic time with the family! 🙂 Hugs!

I actually quite like this one Kylie. It looks like a scene at dawn or dusk, with pinkish skies and fading lights. In my world, all I would do to it, would be to add stickles to the stars. Then you have a bit of dimension and some shine. I’d keep the pink too. It has that dawny/dusky look to it. It’s a great card. I really do like it. : ) Bev

Thank you, Bev. The longer I look at it the more I am happy with the middle panel but I am not happy with the background. I actually think it photographed better than it looks in real life. That’s a bit odd as it is usually the other way. lol I like your idea of adding stickles to the background – thank you! Very clever idea. I’m also toying with the idea of making that middle panel a tag. My other idea is making the scene but putting a window die cut over it. Watch this space! lol I really do appreciate your suggestion, Bev. Thank you so much!
