Thanks so much (Happy Day/Waffle Flower)

Hi Everyone, I was lucky enough to be given the Happy Day stamp set by Waffle Flower and coordinating die for my birthday this year. I’ve sketched out about six different designs to create using this stamp set and I know this is just the tip of the iceberg as far as possible designs.

As is often the case with me these days, I am sharing two “similar but different cards”. They are not quite the designs I had in my head and this happened because I had freshly inked my distress ink pad. When I tapped the blending tool onto the inkpad, it picked up more ink than I had realised. Despite tapping the tool on some scrap paper before I started I ended up with a lot more ink on my paper than I had intended. I went with the flow and made the setting a lot bolder and coloured the whole panel. I can always save my original idea for another day! I’m also out of practice with colouring so I stamped the image twice and decided to colour one using Copic Markers and paint the other with Distress Markers. I figured this way I would end up with at least one card. In the end, I decided to make both images into cards.

Here’s the first card…

Thanks a Bot (PS)

Hi Everyone,

Today I am sharing another card using the super cute Boom Bots stamp set from Paper Smooches. Seriously, how cute are the robots? And the darling robot dog? Adorable!! I love it! I really feel as though I have only just started to scratch the surface on this set.

Today’s card is really rather simple – some patterned paper, a few coloured robots and an embossed sentiment. I tend to like using hearts as embellishments but you could easily switch them out for stars, sequins, rhinestones, or the like.

Here’s the card…

Thanks a BOT Materials used: Stamps -Boom Bots (Paper Smooches); Cardstock - Knights Smooth, American Crafts; Designer Paper - Garage Days, Technologic (KaiserCraft); Sprinkles Shapes - Hearts (Doodlebug Designs); Copic Markers, Silver Embossing Powder (Unknown), Punch - Banner Triple (Stampin' Up!) and Wink of Stella.

I’m nuts and bolts about you (PS)

Hi Everyone,

The moment I saw the Boom Bots stamp set by Paper Smooches I knew I *had* to have it. I had lots of ideas for using it but I talked myself out of getting it for a while as I didn’t really think I *needed* it. Finally I just gave in and purchased it and I am so glad I did as I have totally loved creating with this set. I have a few cards to share today using this stamp set and I have only just begun to touch on some of the many and varied ways it can be used. It’s a realllly fun set!

My first card using this set was super simple. I used the smaller stamps in the set to create a background on the melon mambo cardstock. On the centre panel I stamped a couple of the super cute robots. A very simple card!

Here’s the card…

Luv u Bots Materials used: Stamps -Boom Bots (Paper Smooches); Die - Pierced Rectangle Stax (MFT); Cardstock - Knights Smooth (Knights), Melon Mambo (Stampin' Up!); Copic Markers; Melon Mambo Ink Pad (Stampin' Up!)and Wink of Stella.

I’m not too good with using white space and thought this card might be a little plain. I decided to keep the basic design the same but to spice it up with a bit of bling. I also wanted the stamping on the base cardstock to be a little bolder.

Here’s the card…

U + Me = <3 Materials used: Stamps -Boom Bots (Paper Smooches); Die - Pierced Rectangle Stax (MFT); Cardstock - Knights Smooth (Knights), Melon Mambo (Stampin' Up!); Copic Markers; Melon Mambo Ink Pad (Stampin' Up!), Clear Rhinestones (KaiserCraft) and Wink of Stella.

Thinking the white panel in the centre might be that little bit too white, I decided it was time to add a bit of a background with distress inks and a stencil. (As an aside, this design could be seen to be an interpretation of Sketch #1 shared here. This design has so many possibilities!).

Here’s the card…

U + Me = <3 Materials used: Stamps -Boom Bots (Paper Smooches); Die - Die-namics Blueprints 13 (MFT); Cardstock - Knights Smooth, American Crafts; Designer Paper - Scrap Yard (KaiserCraft); Huey's Masks - Circle Graph Mask (Studio Calico); Sprinkles Shapes - Hearts (Doodlebug Designs); Copic Markers; Distress Ink Pad - Salty Ocean (Tim Holtz/Ranger) and Wink of Stella.

I totally loved the above card but it wasn’t quite how I imagined it. I switched out the paper for this gorgeous foiled checkerplate design (also from KaiserCraft), softened the sponging behind the robots and added some soft pink hearts and voila! my card was finished. I love this one the most.

Thanks so Much (Paper Smooches)

Hi Everyone,

You know that feeling when you stand up close to a piece of art hanging on a wall to see it in detail and it doesn’t really look all that special? Then you take a few steps back and suddenly you see the magic? That’s a bit like how I feel about the card I am sharing today. lol I’ll get back to that in just a minute. 🙂

When I first saw the Inspiration Photo (see below) for this weeks Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge I knew I wanted to use the Crystal Clear stamp set. I had a very clear image in my mind of my design, colour scheme, even the patterned paper I would use. Unfortunately, there was a *tiny* little problem! I didn’t own this stamp set! An emergency order was placed with a local supplier and I crossed my fingers and hoped it would arrive before the weekend. And it did! Yay!

I eagerly ripped into the stamp set and stamped up my design on a scrap piece of paper and I was still pretty chuffed with my design. Then I tried it “for real”. Uh oh! The cardstock I have used is not really suitable for watercolouring and I did intend to shade the mason jar with distress inks. Nevertheless I persisted. And here’s where we return to my opening comment…up close my card isn’t as pretty as I hoped it would be. From a distance it looks pretty cool though. So take a few steps away from your screen before you view my card. lol

Oh, and I do have a tip of the day…I loaded up my paintbrush with ink to spatter onto my design as it just needed a little something. I *may* have forgotten to put my card in a box, or at least protect nearby surfaces before I started flicking paint around. Let’s just say I’m still finding things which have lovely little brown spots on them. Oopsy!

I am thinking I might just try this design again – perhaps put glossy accents over the mason jar and just tie the twine around the jar not the whole page. I think it would make a lovely sympathy card too. I’d also like to try it with pastel colours. I love this set!

Happy New Year!

Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a very merry Christmas and that 2015 brings you good health, happiness, love and lots of crafty goodness!

I’ve had some time off work over the Christmas/New Year period and managed to squeeze in some creating time which has been WONDERFUL! I’d love to retire and create full time! How amazing would that be! Anyway…

Last year I signed up for The Greeting Farm’s Super Secret Stamp Club for October/November/December. Being an international customer meant that my stamps would ship as one but not until November. Unfortunately this meant that when they finally arrived it was AFTER Halloween (all three stamps featured a girl with a skull hair ribbon) and right in the middle of the lead up to Christmas. No time to play! So it was very exciting when I sat down earlier and got to pull out these new stamps. I had never used The Greeting Farm stamps before but have admired them for a while.

First up was “Lavender” (SSSC No. 011) and I stamped her a few times and just coloured! I started with fairly traditional colours and then branched out a little with the hair colour. When designing the cards, I made two which worked with the skull in the hair bow but then decided I need to make the most out of the stamp and to use it in a different way. You know I love to create a scene card too and “Lavender” just cried out to be placed in a number of different settings. I’ll share some of my other designs in the next couple of days.

Here’s card one…

I grabbed the image I had coloured last – one with unusual hair colouring and decided to place her in a dark woods. I decided against a sentiment as it doesn’t really need one. I can always add it later if the need arises. I also added an extra bow and only secured it in the centre – looks very cute! The skull and all of the trees are coated with glossy accents. Love this look!

Lavender Materials used: Stamps - Lavender SSSC No. 011 (The Greeting Farm), Happy Haunting (Lawn Fawn), Autumn Groves, Hooties (Paper Smooches); Copic Markers; Distress Ink; Cardstock - American Crafts, Knight Smooth; Glossy Accents (Ranger) and Wink of Stella.

Here’s card two…

I wanted to vary the above design just a little. I left the moon off, added a rocky path and went with the blue haired Lavender. No sentiment again this time but it can always be added later.

Lavender Materials used: Stamps - Lavender SSSC No. 011 (The Greeting Farm), Texture Clear Stamp Rocks (KaiserCraft), Autumn Groves, Hooties (Paper Smooches); Copic Markers; Distress Ink; Cardstock - American Crafts, Knight Smooth; Glossy Accents (Ranger) and Wink of Stella.

So, they’re more than a little late for Halloween (or super early! lol) but I do think that they could be used at anytime…for the right person! I’ve coloured up another dark background and now I’m tempted to go and make another “Lavender” card. lol

Evolution of a Christmas card (continued)

Hi Everyone,

Continuing on from yesterday’s post regarding the evolution of my Christmas card for this year, I am sharing two more of the “not quite right” designs I was playing with before I arrived at my final idea.

I had decided it might be fun to create more of a scene for the dog (Penny Black’s Xmas treat!) and the idea of using acetate popped into my card. I thought how fun it would be to have the greeting peek through from the inside layer. And then I thought maybe I should use snowmen. The reasons this card didn’t work for me – the trees were too short and there really wasn’t anywhere for me to write (although I suppose I could have written on the back of the card).

Here’s card one…

Merry Christmas Materials used: Stamps - Autumn Groves, Freezy Fellas, Merry Motifs, Swanky Snowdudes (Paper Smooches); Dies - Stitched Hillside Borders (Lawn Fawn), Clearly Creative Cuts - Landscape Trio (Mama Elephant); Acetate, Cardstock - American Crafts, Knights; Copic Makers and Wink of Stella.

Deciding I needed to use taller trees (and preferably from a stamp set for which I had the matching dies!), I switched over to the Joy to the Wood stamp set by Lawn Fawn. I wasn’t quite ready to give up on the acetate idea either but I really didn’t like all the glue showing on the inside. I went to so far as to cover most of the back with white paper. WAY too much work for a card I need to reproduce multiple times. I stayed with the snowman idea too.

Here’s card two…

So, there are two more of the cards which lead me to the design I used for this years card. lol I hope you enjoyed seeing some of my thought processes.

It’s Christmas Eve here so I am going to switch off the computer and settle down in front of the TV to watch “Carols by Candlelight“. It is tradition. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas! I hope you all have a wonderful time with your families and friends.

Evolution of a Christmas card

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I posted my Christmas card for this year and I mentioned I had a number of designs which didn’t quite work for me. I thought I would share three of the “rejected” designs. They aren’t fully polished cards as I was just playing around with different elements to see how they would work but they aren’t hideous either. lol They actually have potential so I wanted to remember the designs so they could be further developed at another time.

Here’s card one…

For this card, I had decided I was going to use the cute Starburst Cover die from Mama Elephant. I love the look of the starry background but I was a little heavy handed when spritzing water onto the sky (not a great thing to do when you aren’t using water colour paper). The horizon line is too far up the card and makes it look a little odd. lol I’m thinking it might be better to trim the design into a smaller panel. I want the dog to be framed by the stars so wouldn’t like to drop him too far down. I actually really like the colours of the sock too (and I really only moved away from this colour combination to the red and green for my final Christmas card design at the last minute).

Merry Christmas Materials used: Stamps - Xmas Treat! 2230F (Penny Black), and Merry Motifs (Paper Smooches); Dies - Starburst Cover - Creative Cuts (Mama Elephant); Project Life White Cards (Becky Higgins); Cardstock - American Crafts, Knights; Copic Markers; Distress Inks; Hybrid Ink - Black Licorice (My Favorite Things); and Wink of Stella.

Here’s card number two…

The more I look at this card, the more I think it could have been my Christmas card and that it would have taken me a fraction of the time to create compared with the design I ended up going with…I better stop looking. lol I was still playing around with the above design and I felt that moving the sentiment to the bottom of the card helped with the spacing issue. It was at this point I decided the card needed a little more dimension so the sock and the puppy dogs head were popped up. I also added a few pale snowflakes from Lawn Fawn’s Snow Day set to the greeting from Paper Smooches. I think this is such a nice touch and I carried this concept right through to my final card design.

Merry Christmas Materials used: Stamps - Xmas Treat! 2230F (Penny Black), Snow Day (Lawn Fawn) and Merry Motifs (Paper Smooches); Dies - Starburst Cover - Creative Cuts (Mama Elephant); Cardstock - American Crafts, Knights; Copic Markers; Distress Inks; Hybrid Ink - Black Licorice (My Favorite Things); and Wink of Stella.

Onto card three…

For the final card I decided I was overthinking things and decided to go simple! I did pop up the sock and head again to make it look a little less flat. Unfortunately, the card just looked a little too plain and not very Christmassy. It’s nice enough but plain. I think the colour choice of the sock was to blame.

Merry Christmas Materials used: Stamps - Xmas Treat! 2230F (Penny Black), Snow Day (Lawn Fawn) and Merry Motifs (Paper Smooches); Cardstock - American Crafts, Knights; Copic Markers; Distress Inks; Hybrid Ink - Black Licorice (My Favorite Things); and Wink of Stella.

After playing with the above three designs, I decided to try something completely different and I will share that card tomorrow.

Thank you for stopping by today!
