Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge: August 3-9 Anything Goes (wk1)

Hi Everyone,

Ever had one of those “missed it by *that* much” moments? Today was one of those days. I decided I was going to make another card for the Paper Smooches SPARKS Designer Drafts challenge. Half way through colouring and cutting out the elements I realised I was running out of time. I had just finished assembling my little fish tank (you’ll see it below) and decided to check how long was left – 5 minutes. Oh no! Not long enough! Oh well…

Turns out that when I refreshed the page on the Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge blog they had already posted the new challenge and it is an Anything Goes challenge. Silver lining! I kept going with my card (I would have done so anyway. lol), changed the design a little and have decided to enter it into the new challenge. Funny how things work out.

You’re Fintastic
Materials used: Stamps – Briny Blue, Debonair, My Guy, Surf & Turf (Paper Smooches), A Little Sentimental (Clearly Besotted); Cardstock – American Crafts; Distress Inks; Distress Markers; and Wink of Stella.

Really quite happy with how the water turned out for this card. 🙂 Love the little highlights of glitter on the fish too.

And now I am off to clean up my space as I have somehow found myself working on a patch of desk no bigger than the card I just made. Oops! lol

Birthdays Cards Clearly Besotted Lawn Fawn Penny Black Stamping

Happy Birthday (Penny Black)

Hi Everyone,

On Friday my youngest nephew turned 11! Happy birthday Max! His birthday party is going to be held this weekend at an archery venue. I had planned to keep with the theme and make him a card based around archery but I couldn’t find a stamp set that I loved enough to use for more than just this card. (I do try to make purchases where I can use the set over and over). I finally found one I liked a lot – Mama Elephant’s On Target. I also thought the Avery Elle’s Aim High had potential too – thanks Elle!) but by the time I decided to go ahead I was concerned that I wouldn’t get them delivered in time. I couldn’t find a local stockist for either stamp set. Drat!

Onto plan B! Max is mad keen on soccer and it just so happens that I had only recently purchased Penny Black’s Sunny Days because it has so many gorgeous images (with a more masculine flavour) including a little soccer playing pooch. Voila! Problem solved.

I used the soccer ball to stamp up my own background – really love how it turned out too. Then just made up a little scene for the dog. I kept it very simple.

Whilst it doesn’t look overly birthday-esque, I know Max will love it because of the soccer theme. That’s the main thing.

Cards Lawn Fawn Stamping

Stamp Trio Challenge: Hello Baby (3)

Hi Everyone,

Today brings me to the end of my first Elle’s Stamp Trio challenge. It has been such a fun challenge as I tried to make three completely different cards with the stamp set Hello Baby from Lawn Fawn. I have made a vintage card, a cute Keep in Touch card and today I have gone for something completely different.

It crossed my mind that Lawn Fawn stamps are, in general, cute and so I tend to make cute cards with their products. Now, I LOVE cute but I thought about challenging myself to make something that wasn’t “cute”. A challenge within the challenge. lol And, I am really thrilled with how this card has come out. (Well, truthfully, there are little bits I want to change but I’m sticking with my plan to complete a card and then start changing up bits and pieces).

Here’s the card…

Materials used: Stamps- Critters on the Savanna, Hello Baby, Hello Sunshine (Lawn Fawn); Lawn Cuts – Spring Showers (Lawn Fawn); Distress Ink; Inktense Pencils (Derwent); and Wink of Stella.

It looks a lot better in person – the water came up so well. Can you tell I used the tree from the Critters on the Savanna set for the rocks? I think the tree top looks great as rocks (and I’ve used them that way a few times now). lol

Cards Lawn Fawn Stamping

Stamp Trio Challenge: Hello Baby

Hi Everyone,

My very talented friend, Elle, from Creative Cardsea, had a brilliant idea to challenge herself to make the most out of her stamp sets. To quote Elle,

So, I’ve decided to make a little challenge for myself and do a Stamp Trio Challenge. I will take a specific stamp set and create 3 cards with it, and I’ll try to push myself to make very different cards (ex. masculine, feminine and general, or different themes/sentiments).

I think this is such a great idea and I wanted to play along. Elle started her challenge with the Hello Baby stamp set from Lawn Fawn. Since I have just purchased this same set I thought I might as well start the challenge using this set.

As soon as I saw the set I thought the bunnies would look amazing in sepia tones. I had originally planned to put the bunnies on a tag with a pretty green ribbon but somewhere along the line it morphed into something else. lol

Here’s the card…

Materials used: Stamps – Critters on the Savanna, Hello Baby (Lawn Fawn), A Little Sentimental (Clearly Besotted); Dies – Stitched Scalloped Borders (Lawn Fawn); Designer Paper – 6×6 Patterned Paper Pad – Serenade (Basic Gray); Cardstock – American Crafts, Unknown; Distress Ink; Distress Markers; Glitter – White (Wow); and Wink of Stella.

So this is my first card in the Stamp Trio Challenge. Now I’m off to make card number two.

Cards Stamping

Hello Foxy

Hi Everyone,

I whipped up todays card over the weekend. I was having second thoughts about whether to share it or not but decided to go ahead. The card has a number of flaws so it probably won’t make it into the “to send” pile. Some of the issues don’t appear overly visible in the photograph, which is nice. haha Please don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it is a horrible card, I can just see the areas which I really want to improve. 🙂

I have to say the stamps in this set are so wonderful to colour and I will be using it again very soon. I’ve already painted the little girl in a couple of different colour schemes (using Distress Markers) and she is just so pretty each time. I cannot wait to try copics too. The price point on these stamps is fantastic too. I think I saw them at Simon Says Stamp for US$7.49 and locally I thought they were a bargain at about AUD14.75 from Paper Squared. Not affiliated with either store (although I wish I was! haha) – just sharing my excitement at finding such nice stamps. They are red rubber cling stamps too, not clear stamps. They stamp up beautifully!

Oh, one of the issues I had with this card is that I kind of bounced one of the fox stamps and ended up with ink in the wrong place. I tried the solution often mentioned by Jennifer McGuire where you scratch the ink off and then use a white eraser over the area. It didn’t work for me. Maybe I was too heavy handed? Either way, the area in question is quite obvious to me.

The other thing I tried on this card was using the Tim Holtz Distress Marker Spritzer to create the mottled background. I need to play around with this a bit more. Think it has huge potential.

Cards Easter Rambling Stamping

Happy Easter…again

Hope you all had a very happy Easter. I know Easter is over for this year (it flew by!) but I forgot to share one of the cards I had made so…better late than never, right?

I was going for a super sweet and simple look and I think I achieved it here. It’s so soft and pretty.

Going off on a tangent…I have had a few days off work this week and thought I might share some of the photographs I have taken on my travels around the state.

Cards Easter Silhouette

I’ll keep this a short post today but I really wanted to touch base and wish you all a very happy and safe Easter! I hope you are surrounded by your loved ones today.

I’ve two cars to share and I’ll get straight into it. The first has been made using my Silhouette Cameo. I was supposed to share it yesterday but I forgot. Oops! Anyway, there are sooooooo many gorgeous designs available in the Silhouette store and I seem to spend more time collecting the different shapes rather than using them. I am going to try to reverse that process. I just ADORE how you can create different alphabets too. You can customise any card or scrapbook layout – so versatile.

Here’s the card…

Materials used: Stamps – Say Cheese (Lawn Fawn); Lawn Cuts – #LF519 (Lawn Fawn); Cardstock – American Crafts; Designer Paper – Southern Chicken Dumpling Soup (jillibean soup), Distress Inks, Copic Markers; Specialty Paper – Vellum (Stamp-It Rubber Stamps); Dies – Spring Bunny (Silhouette) and Font – AM Mighty.

For card two, I used the Happy Easter Holiday set from Close to My Heart which is such a darling set and with the eggception (ooh, I just had to do that, sorry. lol) of two of the images which are specifically Easter, the rest can be used at any time of the year. I have a couple more designs under way which aren’t Easter related. Hopefully they will see the light of day…one day. lol I’ve tried to go for a more simple design here and I quite like how it turned out.

Oh, I did have one weird thing happen with this set and I wonder if it has happened to any of you. I was removing the stamp from the protective film and it TORE IN HALF! ARGH! I treat my stamps with the utmost care and I was sitting here in complete disbelief. I still cannot believe it!

You’re Purrr-fect

Hi Everyone,

I seriously love Paper Smooches stamps! I think that fact is pretty obvious by now. And why wouldn’t you love them? It is so easy to make cute cards with their adorable stamps. I’m still in my phase of using the Chubby Chums cuties and extending them so they hold a greeting. I totally love that look. There are currently another 5 or 6 kitty cats on my desk as well as another cow or two so you might just end up seeing some more very soon. lol

I am going to enter this card into the Paper Smooches SPARKS – Anything Goes competition too. Gotta be in it to win it, right?

The theme for this week is the Designer Drafts Challenge where you need to use the following sketch as the basis for your card.

I sketched out the design and in my mind I could see a fishbowl sitting on a table so that is how I ended up with the following entry into the current competition. The colours of the card are a little more vibrant in real life but I couldn’t seem to capture them today.
