Magic Colour Slider Cards (Lawn Fawn)

Who doesn’t love an interactive card? It is so much easier to make interactive card due to all the fabulous dies on the market these days. As soon as I saw the Lawn Fawn “Magic Colour Slider” die, it went to the top of my “must have” list. Lawn Fawn really do make it easy to make cute and fun cards. It really only took me a few hours to put three cards together and I cannot wait to share them with you all. I grabbed an older Lawn Fawn set called “Critters from the Past”. I used to *love* this set and realised I hadn’t used it in quite a while. Time to change that.

I also must apologise for the lighting on my photographs.

Here’s my first card…

Materials used: Stamps – Critters from the Past, Home Sweet Home (Lawn Fawn); Dies – Critters from the Past, Magic Colour Slider Die (Lawn Fawn); Ink – Intense Black (Simon Says Stamp), Tumbled Glass, Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn (Tim Holtz/Ranger); Cardstock – X-Press It Blending Cardstock; Acetate, and Copic Markers.

For the second card, I thought the dinosaur in the middle panel needed to move a little further into the middle of the card. I also decided to add a white border around the middle panel. I thought it might make it pop a little.

Cards Stamping Techniques Video

New Heights (Gorjuss)

Hi Everyone,

Today I have a bit of a long post as I got a little carried away colouring the Gorjuss stamp set New Heights. I totally love this stamp set and it is SO fun to colour! I am also super excited and scared to share with you my first card making process video and hope you will enjoy it! I really salute people in our industry who make such polished videos as they aren’t easy! I don’t think it is *too* bad for a first effort. I hope you enjoy it! 🙂

New Heights
Materials used: Stamps – New Heights (Gorjuss/DoCrafts); Copic Markers and Cardstock (Knights Smooth).

I decided the above card was nice but I wanted to make it more like my usual style. I was also really enjoying colouring this image. Anyway, next thing you know I have four more cards using this same stamp set. I was so happy with the finished cards.

For this first card, I decided to add the cute little butterfly stamp which comes in the set. I also tried to do the hair a little differently. TIP: If you don’t have the right colour cardstock, use your copic markers to colour white cardstock to the correct shade. I didn’t have the right shade of brown but my copic markers came to the rescue (and for those who watched the video, yes, it is E71. lol).

Hello Sweet Friend
Materials used: Stamps – New Heights (Gorjuss/DoCrafts), Six-Sided Sampler (Stampin’ Up!); Copic Markers; Cardstock – Doodlebug Design, Knights Smooth and Wink of Stella.

For the next card, I decided to cut out the image and layer it on patterned paper. (And woohoo me, I actually used the paper I shared in my haul video!) I *love* this paper. I also finally used the Thanks stamp set from Simon Says Stamp.

Materials used: Stamps – New Heights (Gorjuss/DoCrafts), Thanks (Simon Says Stamp); Copic Markers, Cardstock – American Crafts, Knights Smooth; Designer Paper – Black & White (Glitz) and Circle Craft Punch (Fiskars).

The next card design came about because I accidentally splattered some ink on the design. I have found ink sometimes pools slightly on the edge of the lid of the copic markers. I usually give them a little clean with an alcohol wipe when this happens. Unfortunately, I missed this lid (yes, the E71 again) and it splattered on my work as I was colouring. At first I tried using the blender pen to remove the colour but it was unsuccessful. I decided to embrace the splatter and added more of my own.

The last card was a hybrid of the other cards. I loved the punched sentiment and the patterned paper but didn’t want to cut out the entire image. I think it turned out super cute.

Materials used: Stamps – New Heights (Gorjuss/DoCrafts), Thinking of You (KaiserCraft), Making Frosty Friends (Lawn Fawn) ; Copic Markers, Cardstock – Doodlebug Design, Knights Smooth; Designer Paper – Black & White (Glitz) and Circle Craft Punch (Fiskars).

I love how you can use the same image and make such different cards, even if they are coloured in a very similar way.

Cards Competition Entry Paper Smooches Stamping Techniques

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all enjoyed a very happy Valentine’s Day!

I’ve been thinking a lot about the moving card from my last post so decided to try again. I’m sure there is a secret to making it work perfectly but I haven’t nutted it out yet. It’s ridiculous how much I have thought about this concept. lol I really am loving the process and the end effect. These cards are a bit of fun.

I have decided to enter this card into the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog because the theme is We Love Stamps…and I do too! lol

I think I might also enter it into the Paper Smooches Fun & Cute challenge because I think this card is cute (it features Paper Smooches stamps so it has to be cute!) and fun (because of the moving element and the pun). I’ve never entered one card in more than one challenge before. It feels a bit odd. lol

So here is my card…

Materials used: Stamps – A Little Lovin, Cosmos, Summer Groves (Paper Smooches); Wise Dies – Clouds (Paper Smooches); Cardstock – American Crafts; Distress Ink, Copic Markers; and Hero Arts Shadow Ink.

I guess it is a “typical” Kylie card with the crooked centre panel and the scenery, etc. I do tend to build things in the same way…but…I guess there are worse things. lol 🙂

Oh, and before I forget, I promised I was going to share what I received in my win/splurge from Paper Smooches this week. I picked up the Wise Dies – Hello Words and Flowers. I have the matching stamp set so will look forward to pulling this set out again and seeing what happens. I also picked up the new stamp sets Hooties and Happy Birthday. *swoon* The older stamp sets Chubby Chum Pals and Surf and Turf also joined my collection and last but not least I received the Mini Monograms from their wonderful “Thanks a Million” program! Lucky me!! I have started to have a little play with the Hooties set and it is so totally adorable!

I was thinking about the last card I made and how fun it would be if the bunny could hop. So I made a card where he could. lol It’s a first attempt so I have a ways to go but it actually works! So yay! lol

Penny Black Stamping Techniques

I coloured! (And a tip!)

Hi everyone,

Wow, that week went fast! lol I could have sworn it was only a week since I last posted – how can it be two weeks? Don’t ask me where the time has gone. I guess it went by with illness, tiredness, work and the other usual suspects. I have’t created a thing in all that time but tonight I picked up the copics and started again. I’m so out of practice!

Here’s my tip for today: If there is an area in your colouring where you lack confidence, start there. For example, in the piece below I was anxious about colouring the rabbit (Penny Black – Bonnet Bunny). I don’t have a lot of copics which would be suitable so I was a little unsure as to how it would look. Instead of starting there, I started with the hat which I knew I could colour. It was fun and it looked good. Then I started on the rabbit and wooooah, no! It did NOT work! The colours weren’t great, they didn’t blend well, and my attempts to correct it made the poor bunny look most unwell. lol So I started again (and I wished I was painting!). This time I started with the bunny itself. It’s not perfect – there is most definitely room for improvement but boy, it felt good to colour again.

I haven’t made it into a card yet because I want to have another go at colouring the bunny but I was keen to touch base with everyone. I also wanted to share my tip! It’s always easy to do the things we love and feel confident with first but really there are definitely benefits to starting with the tricky parts.

Penny Black Stamping Techniques

Colouring

Hi Everyone,

One thing I love about stamping is the colouring aspect. There are times when I will just colour with no idea of a finished product and, to be honest, I think we should all do this more often. If you think back to childhood, we learn through play. I find it to be fun and relaxing, and I have learnt a lot about what I like, how to use the different products and so much more.

You’ve probably all noticed that I have been using the Distress Markers from Ranger A LOT lately. I love them. They have a finite number of markers (37 in fact, and I do confess I own all of them) but the colour palette is versatile and if you mix your colours then, really, the possibilities are endless. I love watercolouring with them. I scribble the ink onto my craft sheet, spray water next to it, and then use it as a paint. I do sometimes use the marker to colour the stamped image directly.

Another favourite of mine is the Tombow Dual Brush Marker. There are currently 96 markers in the range but when I started stamping there were 144 and over time I managed to get them all. I still love to use them. I use them in a variety of ways – from the above technique (either with water or with their blender pen), to colouring direct onto paper, or even colouring the stamp directly and stamping.

When all those gorgeous samples started to appear which had been coloured using Copics, I quickly got my hands on a few too. I’m still a newbie when it comes to these gorgeous markers but I am having a blast playing and learning the little quirks to using them.

I also love to use coloured pencils, from watercolour pencils, to pastel pencils to regular coloured pencils…and more.

So where am I going with this? Basically, that it is fun to try different options so that you can find what you enjoy. When you pick up a new marker or pencil or paint, for example, practice, play and experiment. The more you play the more confident you become with the medium and your skills will increase. I know the cost of all these different things can add up so if you can organise a day/evening to create with your friends. Share what you have. Learn from each other. And have a good chat and laugh along the way.

I coloured the same image from Penny Black three times tonight in an attempt to show you the differences between Distress Markers, Tombows and Copics but I am not sure you can really tell. All I can say, for me, it was super fun!
