My friend Elle and I were discussing our stash of patterned papers and how sometimes it can be hard to actually use the paper because the designs are so pretty, or it’s limited edition, or discontinued…etc, etc. Time for that to change! We decided to create a challenge to get us to actually USE some of the paper in our stash. The challenge is to use a pad of patterned paper from our stash and make three cards. To make it a little more interesting we’ve decided we can only use one stamp set for all three cards (along the lines of Elle’s Stamp Trio Challenge).
I’ve chosen to use the Sweet & Cute stamp set from Penny Black and the Sugar Shoppe 6×6 Paper pad from doodlebug design inc.
I actually tackled this challenge in a different way from the way I usually create which has been an interesting (and rewarding) experience. I usually tend to grab a stamp, stamp it out and begin colouring it and THEN I decide which papers, design, etc, to go with. Sometimes that works really well but other times it can be a bit challenging. For this challenge I picked out the individual stamps from the chosen set which I want to use and then I flicked through the paper pad and chose a selection of paper which I thought might suit and finally picked out some matching cardstock. It’s like a little kit which is quite fun. (I love the idea of making up such kits to take off to a crop!)
Funnily enough, my first card is actually made with the papers and stamp I picked out last. lol When I first saw the little mouse on the moon I thought it would make the most darling “baby” card. The stamp set doesn’t come with any “baby” themed sentiments so I went with the “Make a Wish” sentiment because I kept thinking of the song “When you wish upon a star” as I coloured the image. I liked the idea of having just a little highlight of blue around the coloured image so I used a really pale blue copic marker and then “washed” it out a little using the Blender marker. Very happy with the look. The rest of the panel did look a little stark so I scattered on a few more stars, attached the sentiment and voila! a simple, cute card was made.
Here it is….
So now I’m off to make card two in the challenge. Wish me luck! 😉
Oh. My. Kylie, I want to cuddle this card, that’s how absolutely phenomenal it is! Everything – the papers, the image, the colouring – is in complete harmony! One of the sweetest “make a wish’ cards I’ve ever seen, so yep, I’m smitten. Actually, cancel that: I’m full-on in love! You should be able to see the beam of my mega-watt smile lighting up the sky…..
Thank you, Carol! I must say the more I look at this card, the more chuffed I am with it. So glad you like it too. 🙂 You’ve brought a big ol’ smile to my face – thank you!
Oh, Kylie, I love, love, LOVE it!!! It is beyond adorable and just absolutely gorgeous! And here’s my favorite part… the paper pad is totally girly, yet your card would be perfect for a baby boy. I’m just amazed (never would have considered that paper pad for a boy card), and totally giddy with excitement, because you’ve knocked this challenge right out the park already!
And I love that it was a different work approach for you, too. Plus mini kit for crops? Brilliant!
I can’t wait for card #2! 😀
EEEP! Thanks Elle! This challenge was inspired! I’m so glad we are doing it. It’s nice to have a focus, and the mini kit idea is really inspiring me too. The paper pad is so bright I didn’t know how I was going to make three different types of cards but I am pretty happy with this one. lol I haven’t made my other two yet though so better get started. haha big hugs!
Just so you know, Kylie, I am totally CASE-ing this card. Love the simplicity of it, and the way it came into being. Great idea to choose a stamp then find the perfect dp to go along with it. Will give that a shot after I get home from church this morning. This whole sweet card of yours just works. It’s beautifully balanced, beautifully colored and all the elements are perfect together. Love this. You’ve knocked my socks off again with this sweet, sweet card!! Can’t wait to see #2.
CASE away, Ms Bev! I love that we can inspire each other like this. 🙂 Will look forward to seeing your creations, as I always do. 🙂 Thank you for the kind words. Looking at the card again this morning, I am quietly chuffed with it. lol big hugs!
