A Card in *under* 10 minutes?

by Kylie

Hi Everyone,

I’ve seen a few of my crafty friends participating in challenges to make cards in under 10 minutes and have been totally impressed with their efforts. I don’t know how long my cards take me – I’ve never timed myself – but I know it is a lot longer than 10 minutes. Today I decided to join in on the fun with the 10 Minute Craft Dash #25 on the Pretty Pink Posh blog.

I really had no idea where to start so I picked out the colours which met the challenge requirements. Next up were the stamps which I thought would be fun to use. I added quite a few things just in case inspiration struck. I wanted to have it all at my fingertips.

Here’s what I had to choose from:

I started the timer and off I went. Oh my goodness, how stressful. I trimmed the background paper and it left little fibres hanging off the sheet. A great start, I thought. lol I stamped up the little chickie from the Paper Smooches Chubby Chums set on three different sheets of cardstock and then thought to myself how crazy I was to try and paper piece within such a limited time frame. I dropped ink onto my work, cut off bits I needed (the centre circle in the thought bubble, for example) and generally messed up every step of the way….but….SO FUN! I laughed so much.

The end result….nothing fantastic, and I’d never give it to anyone, but it was a great experience and one I would definitely consider trying again.

Hey Chickie Materials used: Stamps - Chubby Chums, He Said, She Said, Spring Groves (Paper Smooches); Cardstock - American Crafts, Knight; and Designer Paper - Doodlebug Designs.

And the time….

I have the utmost admiration for those people who can make polished cards in less than 10 minutes. It is not easy (well, it wasn’t for me!). As for me, I’ll be sure to play along again in the future because it is a wonderful experience, but I think I’ll stick to “however long it takes”.

Happy Stamping!

Thanks Leigh! It was such a huge challenge. I’ve never done anything like this before and have great respect for people who can create a complete card in under 10 minutes!

Round of applause to you for tackling the 10 Minute Challenge, and I think your little chickie is pretty darn cute for a first-go!! I’d make a mess if I tried this challenge, or more than likely go well over the time limit! Most of my cards are more 10 X 10 minutes in creation time (partially because I need to run back at least 20 times to my laptop to check the ‘recipe’ again, especially if it’s a sketch challenge!). My craft space is so limited – kitchen counter, with no room for the laptop – and the kitchen table! Have a great day; glad you’re feeling so much better that you were sparked to try a challenge!! Excellent!

Thanks, Carol! Boy, it was hard but totally a heap of fun. I had things going every which way. lol And the more I hurried the more of a mess I got myself into but fun…super fun! You should give it a go. I bet you love it too AND I bet your creation is heaps better than mine! My cards usually takes AGES but I don’t actually mind at all – it’s relaxation for me so it takes what it takes. 🙂

Speaking of sketch challenges, don’t forget the Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge. It’s a sketch challenge this week. Looks pretty good too.
