Happy New Year!

by Kylie

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to 2014 and my first post for the year. What a busy time it has been. I had a couple of weeks off work but with Christmas and New Years it seemed to pass by way too quickly. We had a wonderful time with the family. I hope you were all able to spend this period with your loved ones.

For those of you who asked about the Christmas present I gave to my sister and her family, the QR Code was a link to a website which showed the family the experience they will be enjoying at some stage through the year. I’ve given them a “Wild Encounter – African Cat Encounter“. Looks amazing! Wish I was going with them. lol They all seemed really quite excited by the gift.

I haven’t done much in the way of creating lately. I have been using any spare time to watch the cricket (Yay! The Aussies won the Ashes! and now it is BigBash time!) or to work on my family history. Genealogy has been a passion of mine (yes, another one!) for a lot of years now. I’ve broken through a few walls this last few weeks which has been wonderful. Despite not having been creating, I did have a littttttle shop on the weekend. I felt like a bit of a “back to work” splurge. I went off to Spotlight and, to be honest, I am usually super disappointed with their range but this time they had a few things which I just had to have. The first is the new KaiserFusion markers from KaiserCraft. I think they are relatively new to the market. They are alcohol based markers and would be competition for Copic Markers. The best part is the price – only A$2.99 each! I had to get a couple (or so) to try. They have 168 colours in the range. There is a chisel nib one end and a bullet point nib on the other. This end also has a dark grey tip so you can easily see which end you are using. Speeds up the process, I think. Now, I haven’t tried these on a project yet but here’s hoping they will be good as the price is so affordable and KaiserCraft products are so easy to get here in Australia. The shop also had some colour charts to take so I’ve already started to catalogue my collection. lol

Next up on the shopping spree, Studio Calico Here&There Paper pads. I ended up getting both the 6×6 and the 12×12 paper pads as I loved the designs and thought they would be great for both card making and scrapbooking.

Speaking of scrapbooking….onto my next splurge. I have been watching people post amazing projects using the Becky Higgins Project Life range. I love scrapbooking but don’t really want to do Project Life. I’m happy with how I scrapbook. Every now and again then there are some photos I want to scrapbook super simply and I thought Project Life style pages might work. Spotlight had a lot of items available and at pretty good prices too so I figured…why not?! lol I also thought the little cards that come in the Core Kit could be good for cardmaking. I splurged on a Core Kit, some page protectors, a 12 x 12 paper kit, some stickers and the craft punch. As soon as I publish this post, I am going to open it all!!! I didn’t want to open it until I had taken the photo. lol

Here’s the photo of my new goodies:

….so now I am off to play! lol Hope you all have an amazing day!

Eeee…I’m so far behind with my comment, all because blogger is being frustrating! Grrr…hopefully, today’s version will stick, because all the other days = no go! Your ”splurge’ of shopping = yummy treats came home with you! From markers, to papers, to scrap-booking goodies (LOVE your “I like the way I scrap-book” comment: yes!!), – you’ve landed a good haul! My shopping spree was a bit ‘extravagant’, even though everything I bought was on a sale of some kind or another (Paper Smooches, Clearly Besotted, a “local” online store, as well as another Canadian store where I scored some awesome patterned papers for reasonable prices and especially, decent shipping!). I haven’t dived into my new goodies full-on, as I’m still in the ‘what do I do with all this now’ phase, but with 30 kids’ Valentine’s to make – for my niece and nephew’s daycare pals – as well as a bunch of birthday/thank you cards for my sister-in-law (her staff and volunteers), a lot more ‘doing’ and less ‘gazing’ is in order! Looking forward to seeing what you’ll create to dazzle and delight us! Are you safe from fires? Hope so!!
