Hope Your Birthday is Unforgettable (WPlus9)

Hi Everyone,

A super quick post today (mainly because it is getting late and I need to get to bed! lol). I totally forgot it was my boss’s birthday today and I’ve always given her a card for her birthday. I felt so bad even though I did actually wish her a happy birthday in person. So tonight, the plan was to make a birthday card. (Turns out I don’t actually make a lot of birthday cards so I need to remedy that too and put a few away for days like these). At first I thought I would use the WPlus9 stamp set Unforgettable as it has a couple of sentiments related to forgetting birthdays but when I sat down I decided to just make a regular birthday card.

Cards Lawn Fawn

You Rock! (Lawn Fawn)

Hi Everyone,

Do you ever look at a stamp set and think…yeah, I know it is supposed to be used in a certain way but all I can see is it being used in this different way? That’s what happened with me and the monkey from the Critters in the Jungle stamp set from Lawn Fawn! I know he’s supposed to be swinging through the jungle but to me, the little guy has the urge to get down and boogie. lol

Fortunately, I also have the Stay Tuned stamp set which has a radio in it and which had also been crying out to be used. I’ve had it for a while but I’m not very good with solid images so kept putting it aside in favour of stamps to colour. The scale of size between the radio and the monkey had me slightly concerned at first but then I realised there are so many different sized monkeys and it really wouldn’t matter.

I also really wanted to stamp the little guy a friend to dance with but I just could not master reverse stamping. I’ve tried many times over the years but that is one thing which I have just never been able to do successfully. Anyway, enough chitter chatter. Let’s get onto the two cards I made today.

So cute! Can you imagine the little monkey on one of those action wobblers? I don’t have any but I think it would be the cutest thing ever.

Cards Christmas Lawn Fawn Paper Smooches Stamping

Evolution of a Christmas card (continued)

Hi Everyone,

Continuing on from yesterday’s post regarding the evolution of my Christmas card for this year, I am sharing two more of the “not quite right” designs I was playing with before I arrived at my final idea.

I had decided it might be fun to create more of a scene for the dog (Penny Black’s Xmas treat!) and the idea of using acetate popped into my card. I thought how fun it would be to have the greeting peek through from the inside layer. And then I thought maybe I should use snowmen. The reasons this card didn’t work for me – the trees were too short and there really wasn’t anywhere for me to write (although I suppose I could have written on the back of the card).

Here’s card one…

Merry Christmas
Materials used: Stamps – Autumn Groves, Freezy Fellas, Merry Motifs, Swanky Snowdudes (Paper Smooches); Dies – Stitched Hillside Borders (Lawn Fawn), Clearly Creative Cuts – Landscape Trio (Mama Elephant); Acetate, Cardstock – American Crafts, Knights; Copic Makers and Wink of Stella.

Deciding I needed to use taller trees (and preferably from a stamp set for which I had the matching dies!), I switched over to the Joy to the Wood stamp set by Lawn Fawn. I wasn’t quite ready to give up on the acetate idea either but I really didn’t like all the glue showing on the inside. I went to so far as to cover most of the back with white paper. WAY too much work for a card I need to reproduce multiple times. I stayed with the snowman idea too.

So, there are two more of the cards which lead me to the design I used for this years card. lol I hope you enjoyed seeing some of my thought processes.

Cards Lawn Fawn Stamping

Have an ice day – part 3 (Lawn Fawn)

Hi Everyone,

When I mentioned in my post that I had a coloured walrus ready to make into the third card in my “Have an ice day” series (part one can be seen here and part two is here), using Lawn Fawn’s Critters in the Arctic stamp set, I was so inspired! When I sat down to make the card I had a few issues. Limiting myself to creating a card in the same style, varying only a few features, but at the same time making a completely unique card was actually a little more difficult than I had thought it would be. After a few (now recycled) attempts, I finally decided to stop over-thinking things and just make the card. lol In my eyes, this card doesn’t have the flair and creativity of the first two but, on the other hand, had I made it first I’d have loved it. It was just unlucky enough to come in third place. lol

Have An Ice Day – part 2 (Lawn Fawn)

Hi Everyone,

I had so much fun making my card yesterday so I couldn’t put the Critters in the Arctic set away just yet! There are still so many other delightful critters to colour, including the subject of todays card – the narwhal! How cute! I thought it might be fun to create another little scene like yesterday but vary a couple of features. I’m so pleased with how it turned out.

Cards Lawn Fawn Stamping

Have an ice day (Lawn Fawn)

Hi Everyone,

Today I sat down to create with a particular stamp set. I had an idea percolating away and had even stamped out a rough design. It was then that I made a fatal mistake – I turned on the computer to watch some YouTube while I created and it seemed like everyone was using the same set (a slight exaggeration, Kylie!). Instead of being inspired, I confess I became a little intimidated. It really is a silly attitude but I guess we all fall victim to comparisons from time to time. I decided to put the stamp set away and grab another one. The idea will still be there another day. It was a great move! And if you are in the same boat, I’d recommend doing exactly the same. Grab another stamp/stamp set and just create! Stop with the comparison. Don’t put that stamp away and never use it again!

Okay, so I’ve been crushing on all the new Lawn Fawn stamp sets which have recently been released. I had a little splurge and picked out a few of my favourites, including Critters in the Arctic and Winter Penguin. I *love* their critters and you know I *love* creating scenes. It’s a win win. As soon as I saw the two sets I knew I wanted to combine them and create a little winter scene so that’s what I did. (I can tell I am going to use that little iceberg a lot!) I did have a bit of drama with the embossing (reminder: make sure inked background is completely dry before applying embossing powder. lol). I thought long and hard about re-doing it but I decided that I actually liked the rough, splotchy look. To me it looked more realistic. I have to say I *love* how this card turned out. Go me! lol

Cards Lawn Fawn Stampin' Up!Stamping

Everything is fun with you (Lawn Fawn)

Hi Everyone,

I’ve been colouring again! This time I pulled out the Lawn Fawn set Love You S’more as I realised that I haven’t used it since I bought it, apart from the initial “stamp up all the images to see what they look like” play. I LOVE this set, especially the bear. I now have a sleuth of bears of all different colours decorating my craft space. lol

The scene for this card came together because I have also been playing with the Critters in the Forest set testing out the new Stampin’ Up! Blendabilities markers (I recently purchased the Old Olive Assortment and the Coastal Cabana Assortment as I’ve been keen to see how they compared with Copics).

I’d been busy colouring away – animals and trees – and it hit me that I really should make the images into a card. What a novel concept! lol I decided that instead of distress inking the sky (I do tend to favour this technique), or using a stamp to create a starry night, that I would use some pretty paper from the Hello Sunshine 6×6 petite paper pack from Lawn Fawn (which I couldn’t find on their website – please don’t tell me it is discontinued…). I thought the paper was a little too bright for the scene I had begun to set so I sponged over it with Faded Jeans Distress Ink. That’s better! I stamped the greeting and embossed to make it pop and then finished assembling my scene.

Cards Mama Elephant Stamping

Spread Happiness (Mama Elephant)

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all enjoying a lovely and creative weekend. I still had the Mama Elephant stamp set Up and Away on my craft table so decided to make the card which had been in my mind before I got side tracked by ball pit cards. lol

My idea was to make a moving card especially when I saw the sentiment “Spread Happiness wherever you go”. I had all the pieces almost ready to assemble when I decided that the cotton thread might not be strong enough to pull the little critter across the card. At that moment I decide to anchor all the pieces and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

Here’s the first card…

Materials used: Stamps – Up and Away (Mama Elephant); Dies – Creative Cuts – Landscape Trio (Mama Elephant); Mister Hueys Colour Mist – Shine (Studio Calico); and Distress Markers.

Of course I always stamp up (and usually I colour them too) multiple images when I create so I decided to try my moving card again but this time I would I wouldn’t separate the balloons and the strings. I was partially worried by the appearance of the white behind the string and toyed with the idea of sponging ink but now that it is finished I’m not unhappy with the white.

I’m sorry the photographs aren’t the best – one of the downsides to being a nighttime crafter, especially during winter.
