Happy Birthday Dad!

by Kylie

Hi Everyone,

Today is the birthday of one of my most favourite people in the world – my Dad! Words really cannot express how much I love my Dad and how highly I think of him. We had a lovely day, with the entire family, celebrating his special day. It was wonderful and I know he had a great day which is the most important part.

I made him a card, of course! I confess I had a few technical difficulties so it isn’t quite what I had planned to make but I am reasonably happy with it.

Here it is:

Happy birthday, Dad! Materials used: Stamps - A Little Lovin', Hullabaloo (Paper Smooches); Wise Dies - Clouds (Paper Smooches); Distress Ink, Hero Arts Shadow Ink, and Copic Markers.

I had planned to use the cloud die cuts as a template and to sponge a paler blue over them to make a soft cloudy sky but I was too heavy handed. After the second attempt went wrong I realised I no longer had time on my side and just had to get the card done. Soooo…I need to try that technique again. I’m thinking a sponge dauber might be more effective than applicators I tried. We shall see.

Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend. Our cool change has just come through so it is a rather pleasant 25°C right now. No rain though and we reallllly need the rain. There are fires all around and the rain would really help!

Happy Stamping!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Kylie’s dad! How wonderful that your entire family could join in celebrating YOUR day; I’m sure the memories made will be treasured forever! And the card Kylie made, I’m 100% certain that a smile all over your face appeared when you saw it. She is a talented, sweet, creative gem! We who’ve had the absolute delight to come to *know* her through the crafting community think she’s amazing, not only for her talents, but her warm, positive, spirit-lifting and enthusiastic personality! I live in Alberta, Canada, and I can tell you quite honestly that every one of Kylie’s comments brightens my days, and warms my heart (especially when we’re in the midst of winter with temperature s a “balmy” -33C). Hope that your birthday marks a year filled with much happiness, joy and especially LOVE!

Happy birthday to your dad, Kylie! It’s always wonderful to be able to spend time with those special people in our lives, and twice the fun when it’s a great occasion (like a birthday).

I love your card – especially the background! I think you used drops of water in some areas, and it made them lighter. It almost look like floating dandelions or maybe fireflies. It’s such a fantastic effect. I also never would have been able to tell you wanted to do more with the clouds if you hadn’t said it. I think they contrast especially well with the darker sky and give a crisp and modern mood to the image.

Thanks so much, Elle! So sweet of you. You’re right I misted the background with water to try and soften it a bit. I love the thought of the floating dandelions or fireflies – so cute! Thank you! 🙂

Awww…! Your dad must cherish every single moment he spends with you. I can tell that you not only LOVE your dad, but you LIKE him too. That’s not always easy, but it seems you’ve made it work wonderfully. And your card for him is adorable. He will surely treasure it all his life. Sweet colors, wonderful design, and great texture and dimension. Great card, Kylie. I’m so glad to see you online again. : ) Bev
