Enjoy your day (Penny Black)

by Kylie

Hi Everyone,

Have I ever mentioned how much I love colouring? No? Only every other blog post, right? lol I really do. I may have a long way to go but by the same token I have come a long way too. One stamp company I discovered early on in my stamping adventure which had WONDERFUL images for colouring was Penny Black. I loved them way back then and I love them now, especially their cute critters – the hedgehogs, the dogs and the cats…oh and those mice too. (As an aside, if you are not familiar with them, Penny Black rubber stamps range is not limited to their cute critters – they cater to pretty much every style and genre. They are amazing!)

Anyway…I received My Favourite Things new Hybrid Ink Pad in Black Licorice in the mail this week and I have been dying to try it out. Did it really allow you to use water colours AND alcohol based markers? I had to try! And using Penny Black’s Sunny Days stamp set seemed like a great place to start as they have such wonderful images to colour. As Father’s Day is in a couple of weeks I’ve been thinking about making some more masculine cards and this set certainly caters to this theme. I chose the little puppy who is fishing. Such a darling image!

I stamped the image twice using the Black Licorice Hybrid ink. I decided to start with my Distress Markers and water coloured the image. Looks good! No blurry, running ink. Very happy with the finish.

Here’s the card…

Enjoy your day! Materials used: Stamps - Sunny Days (Penny Black); Distress Markers, Cardstock (American Crafts); Dies - Nestabilities Large Labels (Spellbinders), Custom Panels Die (Avery Elle) and Wink of Stella.

Next up, I decided to use my Copics and see how the ink reacted. And…completely fine! No bleeding or feathering at all.

So the result is that I am a new fan of the Hybrid Ink by My Favourite Things! I love that I can stamp up an image twice (which I usually do anyway) and then colour away using whichever medium I prefer (and which can change on a whim! lol). It’s wonderful! I’ve got a repeat experiment underway just to make sure it wasn’t beginners luck. lol So far so good!

Hope you are all having a wonderful day!

Happy Stamping

Oh for goodness sake’s…how fabulous are these two cards, Kylie! Absolutely darling image, paired with your amazing colouring AND an ink review! Most excellent! Can you believe that no PD products are in my collection! I know, I know…BUT, I’ve discovered a new distributor in my home city (I can’t believe I didn’t find her earlier…all the money I could have saved on shipping…gahhhhh!!!), so when I go to see my family (woo hoooo!!!) later this week, guess where I’m heading!! I’m excited! She carries PB and I have a list a mile long for stamps and die. Have you seen their newest release? Swooning!! As for the MFT ink – I’ll have to see if she carries it and if so, I’m in!! By the way, keep your eyes open for The Male Room challenges – you are awesome with guy cards, soooo…hint, hint, nudge, nudge!!
Hugs to you, sweet friend!

Oh, C, you totally need Penny Black in your collection. They have the most GORGEOUS images – and all styles too. I tend to favour their cutesy, able to be coloured images but you probably guessed that. lol Woohoo for seeing family and woooohooooo for a local stamping source. 🙂 I’m loving the MFT ink – very versatile. The one thing I would add is that sometimes I will stamp the sentiment in Stazon if I want it to be a darker black. I don’t think it stamps quite as dark as I would like. lol Okay, I am so going to have to start a list of all these challenge blogs!!
Many thanks again and big hugs to you! 🙂

Ooh! So glad you got to try the hybrid ink. I’ve pretty much converted over to it for most things. It’s so versatile! And I love that it works with Copics /and/ watercolor.

I love your two cards. Simple, but so interesting to look at. I especially love the little round corners on the image panel. They make it look like a photo in an album! 🙂

I think that is what I love most about the hybrid ink, Elle, the versatility. Sometimes I inadvertently reach for the copics when I’ve stamped with stazon and uh oh…trouble. lol It’s a great ink. Thanks for your sweet comments too. I love the photo in an album comment – gives me an idea. Just have to remember it when it comes time to play. lol Big hugs!
