A Big Thank You (Penny Black)

by Kylie

Hi Everyone,

I felt like colouring today so grabbed one of the stamp sets on my desk to have a bit of a play. The set is Critter Time from Penny Black. It is adorable! I picked out one of the super sweet images and stamped it on white, natural and kraft coloured cardstock. For the white and the natural cardstock I used my copics to colour the image and for the kraft cardstock I thought it might be interesting to use my Bruynzeel Pastel Pencils for something a little different.

I decided to use very similar colourways on each card and had it in my mind that I could use more of the Sugar Shoppe patterned paper from Doodlebug Design since it is still on my desk. I fussed around with the design and colour choices for way too long but eventually I had finished three new cards.

To be honest, I really only love one of the cards. The others are okay, but in my mind, they are only okay. Perhaps if I had chosen other papers, or design of card then I might love them more. To clarify, I like the coloured panels just not the finished design and that is part of the reason I am sharing all three cards today. The one I love the most is card number three. It is simple and pretty!

Here are the cards…

Card one:

A Big Thank You Materials used: Stamps - Critter Time (Penny Black); Designer Paper - Sugar Shoppe (doodlebug design); Bruynzeel Pastel Pencils; and Wink of Stella.

It is fun seeing how the same design coloured very similarly and adorned with similar supplies (patterned paper, etc) can end up so differently. Do you have a favourite of my three cards? Do you agree with me that card three is by far the best? Would love to hear your opinion. Thanks for stopping by today.

Happy Stamping!

A trio of delight, Kylie, with your expertly coloured kitten and his lovely bouquet (seriously, how do the PB designers come up with such sweet images!). Although I think all three are wonderful as is, I like Elle’s divider suggestion for the first – maybe something with a design might work. Perhaps black polka-dots for the background – maybe the kraft/kitten will pop a bit more. Whatever your decisions, the results will be charming! Love ’em alllllllll!

I agree with you, I think I like the third one best, too. But after taking a bit of time to think about it, I think it’s primarily because of the pretty ribbon. It contrasts wonderfully with the kraft color and does a good job of dividing the space. But there isn’t as clear of a divider in the other two cards.

One thing you could try to do is cut a 1/4″ strip of black cardstock and just hold it up where the pink meets the white on the first card. See if you like that better. I think the layout is lovely, and the paper choice is perfect, but I do kind of feel like it needs just a little extra something.

Though it could be just that I really like ribbon. Lol!

I do love all 3 cards, though. Your coloring is lovely – especially on that pencil-colored kraft piece. And I love that you’re using more of that paper pad! It’s a really fun one to work with. 😀

You are right, Elle! The more I look at them the more I think they need an extra divider of some sort. I tried the black. It looks good between the white and the pink but it still doesn’t make the card look finished. I’m thinking maybe I should have used more kraft type backgrounds rather than the bright pink and the white. I might just put it aside for a bit.

lol I like ribbon too but rarely use it because it can be a bit bulky. 🙂

Thanks so much, Elle! 🙂
