One from the vault

by Kylie

Hi everyone,

I have LOTS of cards in my stash (or vault as I tend to refer to it here)! It’s funny; we talk about using our stash in the context of our supplies, but in my case I also have a pretty big card stash too. This is actually part of the reason I began writing this blog. Sometimes I make a card and think to myself that I really like it and I don’t want to give it away as I want to use it for inspiration. Or I just feel like playing and make cards with no real purpose in mind…straight into the stash it goes. By starting the blog I thought I could keep a visual diary of what I am making so that I can start to use more of my card stash.

So today’s piece comes from this card stash and is another variation on the scenes I like to make. Can’t begin to tell you how many cards similar-ish to this are in my stash. They are just so much fun for me to make. This card features the adorable Lawn Fawn critters. I also tried my hand at faux stitching. It’s not something I tend to do but I have seen it used very effectively by other cardmakers so decided it might fit here. The best white gel pen I have found is the uni-ball Signo broad. It’s a great pen for making the little dash lines, or for colouring over little mistakes.

Hey There Materials used: Stamps - Bon Voyage, Critters Down Under, Critters in the 'Burbs, Critters in the Forest (Lawn Fawn); Sentiment Sampler (Paper Smooches); Cardstock - Knight; Distress Inks, Distress Markers, uni-ball Signo Broad white gel pen; Mini Pearls - Spring Assortment (doodlebug design); and Glossy Accents (Ranger).

Hi Kylie! I’ve not forgotten about you! My town – Canmore, Alberta – was turned topsy-turvy by such hard rains that the usually ‘gently trickling’ creek was transformed into a raging torrent. Homes were wrecked, the highways in-and-out were washed out or covered in mud and debris, to the point where we were land-locked. I was evacuated, and found refuge with two ‘knights in shining armour’ who took pity on the ‘matron’ in distress and let me stay with them for three days. My husband, out of town when this unfolded, spent three days as a nomad, driving hither and yon in hopes that the roads in some direction would open. Fortunately, they did – and we’re home, safe and dry.
Anyway, returning home and seeing your amazing cards is an uplifting, delightful treat! What makes this card super special – your two pooches look like the two miniature schnauzers I once had! My babies – and oh, how I miss them! Fantastic colouring; darling scene (love those collars!), and the ‘signature’ mushroom and bird! Love it!

Hi C, I am so pleased you, your husband and your home are okay. What a frightening thing to go through. I’m glad you had your knights to look after you. It is just terrible what has happened – such devastation.

Thank you for your wonderful comments on my cards. They certainly delight me, and inspire me to continue to share. Thank you!

Very cute! Love the gradient between the grass and sky. And of course, the touch of red in the little ‘shroom. Your card is just so happy. Know what you mean about not wanting to send some of them…but I’m at that age where I’m trying hard not to save too much stuff. That and I love how others react to them. I’ll be posting a card with a smidge of coloring on it in a bit. Not like yours, but it was totally out of my comfort zone. Love your pups card…once again, mad coloring skills!

Thank you! And as I just said on your blog, you should step out of your comfort zone more often because the card you posted seriously ROCKS! It is gorgeous – from the DP to the colouring! 🙂
