You’re My Universe

by Kylie

Hi Everyone,

I’m still drawn to the Paper Smooches Challenge for this week. I still can’t seem to master the sketch. I’m not sure why. I think it is because of the white space.

My card features the ADORABLE stamp set Space Cadet. I love the cute little aliens in this set. I struggled with this card though as I just couldn’t get it to work (in my eyes). My first background saw me stamp a gazillion little stars (okay, SLIGHT exaggeration!) in versamark and then colour over the top with distress inks. I decided they looked a little plain so I white heat embossed more stars over the top but it looked odd so I tossed that idea out. I went back to the distress ink background and then spritzed it with water. It came up okay.

So here’s the card for today. I just cannot tell why it doesn’t quite work. I’m hoping it is one of those things where if I stop looking at it and then come back a while later I will suddenly either love it, or work out what I need to do to “fix” it. lol We’re so picky, we crafters, aren’t we?

You're My Universe Materials used: Stamps - Space Cadet (Paper Smooches); Cardstock - American Crafts, Knight; Distress Ink, Distress Markers; and Hero Arts Shadow Ink (Wet Cement).

Having looked at the gallery, I *know* none of my entries are contenders this week. That’s okay! I think participating in challenges like this really help to expand your skills and encourage you to try something outside your comfort zone. Now, I’m looking forward to the next challenge….although I cannot say for sure that I won’t try this sketch again! lol

Happy Stamping!

Hi Kylie: nothing “out of this world” from my perspective, because the entire card is perfect! Love that sky, especially as the stars near the darling creatures appear more dense, then “space out” (sorry…had to) as the scene expands. Looks ever so ‘natural’! Charming, sweet, awesome card, in every respect! I agree wholeheartedly with Bev: “Dang, you’re good!” – and that covers alllllll your cards AND the warm, encouraging, supportive spirit-lifting comments you leave on my blog. A note from brightens my day immensely! Glad you like the anniversary ‘test run’ and real run! They were certainly “out of my world”!! Have a super day!!

Oh, I totally know what you mean about staring at a card and wanting to fix the elusive “something.” Your card turned out great, and I think I’m going to have to try and make that background–it’s fantastic. The coloring on the space cadet and aliens is beautiful. Thanks for joining us at Paper Smooches SPARKS!

It can be frustrating, can’t it? I just left in the end. I couldn’t work out what needed to be changed. 🙂 Thank you so much for visiting and for your kind words. Hope you have a great day!

Love this. That little guy is so cute with his alien buddies…or wait…is he the alien?…anyway… This is such a fun card. You’ve taken a ‘dark’ outer space and made it bright. Dang, you’re good! Maybe this one is the winner… Is the challenge still open? If so, you could always make another just for funsies! lol. Lovin’ every card you’ve ever posted. Have a good week. Bev

Oh Bev, I *nearly* entered again but after seeing all the other entries I knew it was pointless. That’s okay though, I think these challenges are great in that they help you to try something a little different. Sometimes it works…sometimes it doesn’t. Just part of the fun. 🙂 Thank you sooo much! Your comments really make my day! Hope you have a great day today! 🙂
